Our executive management team
Andrew co-founded Smart to give real people simpler ways to save and access their savings throughout their lives. As the company has grown, world-leading institutions and governments have partnered with Smart, allowing us to help more people with their money. Previously, Andrew was an international managing director, with roles in banking and finance. He also works with cutting edge innovation foundations – awarding funding and offering advice to promising UK fintech companies and social entrepreneurs, including those who work with open banking.
Will is behind Smart’s technology strategy, innovation and global vision. Starting with a solid background in private equity, Will moved to eBay's marketing department where he grew their members from three to eighteen million in three years. He also created the business case for eBay's charity arm, which raised several hundred million pounds for good causes. Will is the co-founder of ArenaFlowers.com, one of the UK’s leading flower and gift delivery businesses, and oversees fintech acceleration programmes run by Octopus Investments. Will is also Chairman of Trulience, a futuristic, digital human software firm.
Jamie is passionate about transforming pensions to make sure that they bring greater value and help improve later life for all people. He was previously Chief Operating Officer at B&CE, where he was instrumental in the design and delivery of The People’s Pension, before joining Smart in 2018. With a background in accountancy and more than 27 years' experience in financial services, Jamie is an experienced and skilful pair of hands to efficiently lead Smart's pension and platform businesses to further significant growth.
Richard is responsible for leading and coordinating our global growth activities, customer proposition and go-to-market planning. Richard's background and knowledge span banking, insurance and retirement. He has operated at executive and board level for over 25 years, bringing a wealth of commercial experience and an extensive global network. He specialises in transformation propositions, developing global platforms and launching technology platforms. Richard has held senior positions at Charles Schwab, Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Barclays and Aegon/Transamerica.
Kate's role is to take the technology ideas at Smart forward into production. She ensures that our design and engineering teams are running smoothly and producing high quality products for Smart’s clients and partners around the world. Before joining Smart, Kate held several different high-level roles in technology over the years, including positions at Vodafone, Allen and Overy, Morgan Stanley and Linklaters.
Eamon is responsible for Smart’s risk management and cyber security functions, and also manages our board arrangements and investor relations. He ensures that Smart’s ambitions, governance and processes are optimised for efficiency. He is a safe pair of hands to guide Smart through strategic projects as it experiences rapid global growth. Eamon joined Smart in 2018, after 35 years in a variety of senior banking roles. As COO of several banking units at Lloyds, he oversaw the creation of new business areas in mortgages, operations, risk management and financial markets.
Smart in the U.S. is led by CEO Jodan Ledford, a U.S. retirement plan industry veteran and, most recently, the Chief Client Officer at Legal & General Investment Management America – taking assets under management from $30 billion to $210 billion.
Ryan is a strategic and operational finance leader with experience across financial services and technology businesses including KPMG, RSA and Aldermore. He is ACA qualified and holds an MBA with Distinction from Warwick Business School.
Our senior leadership team
Tim is the Managing Director of Smart's Middle East and Asia business and was the youngest person elected to Vice President of the Pensions Management Institute in the UK. Based in Dubai, UAE, Tim works with Smart's platform clients to deliver digital platforms, in order to drive innovation and efficient operations in the running of DC Master Trusts. He has worked in the pensions industry for 17 years, including in the DC Master Trust space for the past seven years.
Katrina is Director of Smart’s Irish business. She has extensive leadership experience within Irish & UK financial services harnessing technological innovation to drive and accelerate digital transformation within organisations focused on revenue growth, operational efficiency and better experiences for business and consumers. Katrina manages our Irish platform clients and works with industry stakeholders to transform retirement as pension reforms including auto enrolment come to pass in the Irish Market.
Martin Warner is an experienced HR leader who joined Smart in 2018 to help recruit, develop and retain the best talent. Having helped Smart scale from 80 people to over 700, Martin is now responsible for the company’s next growth phase whilst also ensuring that it retains its key principles and culture. Martin helped Smart get on to the Great Places to Work list in 2020, 2021 and 2022, as well as being part of the team that increased our ability to hire top engineers by expanding our Engineering Team to locations in Poland, Belarus and Croatia. Before coming to Smart, Martin was a consultant for three years, helping to scale companies such as Market Finance and Wise.
Sam's the driving force behind our technology. Since Smart was founded, Sam has overseen the evolution of our platform and helped grow the engineering team to what it is today. With more than 20 years’ experience, he's the best person to make sure we're using the right technology as we continue to innovate within the financial services industry.
