Our business

So what exactly is a global retirement platform and why have we built one? As more countries around the world are making a shift to auto enrolment and defined contribution retirement schemes, we developed a platform that would make this easy and simple for employers as well as members.

We did this first in the UK by creating Smart Pension to provide employers and advisers of all sizes a quick, easy and well-governed scheme that they could join in a few minutes. Since then we’ve developed the platform internationally and are now helping people across the globe save for retirement. We’ve started working with some incredible strategic partners such as Barclays, J.P. Morgan and Link Group to evolve our Platform as a Service offering, as well as with governments and large financial institutions across the globe.

Our culture

We often get asked how we’ve managed to keep the culture of a scaling company alive now that we’ve grown to over 500 team members around the world, and to be honest, with remote working and lockdowns it hasn’t been easy. But as one of our Smart principles says – we want happy and good people in our team, so this means adapting to different challenges and listening to our staff.

We’ve invested a lot in the past year into looking after our teams – there’s 24/7 access to mental health support and we offer nine different mental health and physical wellbeing support resources. We have regular virtual Town Halls so everyone is connected and working towards the same goal, as well as virtual yoga, lunch and learns, and mindfulness sessions.

We’re also very passionate about investing in the development of our staff. All full-time members have an annual training budget of £500 a year, our flat structure gives them the responsibility to make efficient decisions, and our health insurance and enhanced parental leave allows people to take the time they need to feel their best. We also host regular Hackathons to allow everyone across the business to explore their creative and innovative ideas.

Hopefully one day we can all be back in the office together and enjoy our usual perks like summer and winter parties, football clubs, chill-out areas, pool tables, video games and drinks fridges.
